Inmetco Environment, Health & Safety Policy (EHS)
Inmetco will provide a safe, healthy and environmentally compliant workplace and operate within the principles of sustainable development. We believe that every employee must leave the Inmetco facility in the same condition as he or she entered, safe and healthy. Therefore, we will:
Strive to eliminate any negative impact of our operation on employees, contractors, the public, customers, and the natural environment.
Train and educate our employees to ensure that equipment and processes are operated and maintained to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements relating to safety, health, hygiene and the environment.
Implement site-specific safety, health, hygiene and environmental programs within an EHS management system that will be followed by all employees, contractors, visitors, and vendors.
Conduct regular audits, in cooperation with all employees, of our policies and programs, and correct all non-conforming activities or findings arising from the audits.
Evaluate all new projects and existing operations for potential risks to employees, contractors, the public, customers, and the environment to ensure proper design and effective control measures are implemented.
Commit to the principles of sustainable development, continuous improvement, and the prevention of pollution, with priority given to safety, health, hygiene, and environmental considerations.
Practice waste minimization and recycling of raw material and product wastes.
Communicate openly with employees, contractors, the public, government and others on activities involving safety, health, hygiene, and the environment.
Report on safety, health, hygiene and environmental matters regularly to all levels in the organization.
A shared responsibility
Inmetco will always strive to meet or exceed all applicable laws and regulations and other requirements regarding safety, health, and environment and ensure that all such laws, regulations and other requirements are adhered to in the workplace. Inmetco will control or eliminate risks promptly either through modifying facilities, changing procedures, or improving employee training and awareness.
Our employees will perform their jobs in the safest possible manner to minimize risks to their health and the environment, to participate in identifying and eliminating or minimizing risks in the workplace, to maintain a clean and orderly workplace, and to take the required or recommended measures to ensure their personal safety and that of their fellow employees, contractors, vendors and visitors to Inmetco.
This policy is intended to be consistent with Inco's company-wide policy on the areas covered above.
